Introducing 'The Corvette Landing', the first modular building in Esquimalt. Utilizing an off-site construction method and an innovative design strategy, the Corvette has managed to streamline the entire development process and create a high-quality product with a small carbon footprint, pioneering the future of construction in Esquimalt.
Individual modules are constructed and fully finished in a factory setting, while the eventual building site is simultaneously prepped for their arrival. Expending far fewer raw materials than traditional construction methods, the modules are fabricated in a highly controlled environment, allowing for quality assurance and precise engineering. Once transported and on-site, the modules are literally emplaced and seamlessly integrated into a singular structure, an aesthetically pleasing building that enhances both the streetscape and the pedestrian experience.
In the final stage, the exterior elevations will be created to envision the future growth and rejuvenation of the local neighbourhood, making a strong visual statement to passersby that reflects the building's unique character. The modular construction method rapidly accelerates the production schedule, completing buildings in virtually half the time of the traditional on-site process. This opens a new realm of opportunity for urban development. The images on the right illustrate a nine story apartment being built in just five days in the age of prefabrication. This approach allows each one-or-two-bedroom dwelling to be built almost entirely offsite then stacked like a puzzle piece onto the site, completed with decks and fenestration in place. Thirty four units were installed in less than 1 week.
As for green energy, “Rooftop mounted solar panels provide enough energy to heat the water used up by the residents, while the building is also equipped with a H.W.S system that provides highly efficient water circulation. Energy efficient lighting is installed throughout the building, to conserve energy expenditure. This building also has a 6 Star energy rating.”
